Beekeepers / Apiarists are on the New Zealand Skills Shortage list which means that Immigration NZ is accepting experienced Beekeepers into New Zealand from all around the world to meet job vacancies in the industry.
Become part of this thriving industry and get a job as an assistant beekeeper after successful completion of this NZQA approved programme or, if you are already working, get qualified so that you can continue your pathway to becoming a Senior Beekeeper.
New Zealand needs experienced and qualified Beekeepers to support and grow the Apiculture industry.
There are many opportunities to become involved in the apiculture industry from having your own hives and developing a niche market for your products, working for a small apiary (tens – hundreds of hives) or working for large scale commercial operations (thousands of hives across many regions) starting as a Junior Beekeeper.
The typical career progression in New Zealand is:
- Assistant or Junior Beekeeper (You will qualify at this level and begin getting experience)
- Senior Beekeeper (Gain experience and complete higher-level qualifications)
- Team Leader – Beekeeping Operation (Generally are Senior Beekeepers now supervising teams)

This programme has been designed for people who are already working, those looking to get NZQA qualified and start working in an apiary, or for those who have their own hives.
